It gets more difficult as the kids get older to find interesting, high quality toys that are not made in China. We have been asked many times for a video game system or handheld system, but as of yet, we have not been able to find one. We have been told by some resources that it is possible to find Play Station 3 and xBox 360 that are made in Japan. However, we haven't been able to find one. If you find a retailer that stocks these exclusively, please let us know!
With that in mind, we do have some fantastic recommendations for 2009!
2009 recommendations
Looking for lap desks and bags that your tween and teen will love? Room it up has a sleek, stylish line that is made in India. They also have a wide variety of cosmetic bags, yoga bags, umbrellas and lunch totes.
Elementary school kids will love the challenge of Briarpatch games and puzzles. Familiar licensed characters make them even more fun!
Looking for card games for older elementary kids? We love Gamewright! Challenging and creative card games are perfect stocking stuffers and a wonderful addition to any family game night! Gamewright makes all the card games in the USA. However, games with other components are made in China. We are only recommending card games here.
Lego manufactures bricks in the USA and in Europe under strict EU guidelines. While Lego does make some electronic components, fabric and packaging in China, we are still very confident in the bricks Lego makes.
Playmobil is debuting a new line of Egyptian themed toys. Nearly all Playmobil is manufactured in Mexico, Malta and the Czech Repubic. Some Playmobil in the "Take-Along" line is made in China so stick with the standard play sets.
And some additional items we wanted to share this year!
A challenging balance game for kids 8+, made in Canada.
Fractiles are made in the USA and a puzzler for the whole family.
For your older school children, we have several recommendations:
A leather, handmade writing journal for your creative student-
Test your athletic child with something new- a boomerang or a mini-Luge, both made in the USA
