Sculpey/ Polyform Products, Made in USA and Mexico

A reader had asked if we could do some research on Fimo. We have not heard back from them yet, but we have heard from Sculpey, a similar product. All Sculpey products are made in the USA, with the exception of EZ Shape, which is made in Mexico. If you're looking for interesting art supplies for older children, we have your solution!

While I understand the intent behind this blog. As an adoptive parent I object to the term "China-free". I would ask that as parents we use proper language on this subject.

I apologize if you are offended. However, most people are searching for China-free toys. Our intent was not to offend those from China, adopting from China or searching for Chinese goods.

If I may, what would be appropriate language?

Oh please...seriously has PC gone this far? People are just trying to protect their children from manufactures that will produce toys that put our children at risk. I don't think anyone thinks that we object to Chinese people.

I cannot believe my eyes...seriously! Lead based paint/poisons in toys to anti-adotion of chinese kids??? Get real! Get over it!

Thanks for doing the research on my question! It looks from the packaging that Fimo is also made in the USA.

Good work and don't worry about the terminology.

Back to the subject of Sculpy & fimo. They may be made in the usa, but that does not make them a safe product for young children. read their packaging. You should not work with the product on any eating surface because of the residue.(ex: kitchen table) limit contact to the skin & ventilate when baking. if baked too long they emit toxic fumes. in addition, one of the seals of approval on the package is not from a group of independant reviewers, but from a group of craft manufacturers.

We do not claim that this product is "safe for young children". It is designed for children at least 6 and up. We were asked by a reader to find a modeling clay product that was made in the USA and lead free.
