GeoMag- Made in Switzerland

We've discovered a substitute for Magnetix that your older children are sure to love. GeoMag is made in Switzerland but has all the magnetic fun Magnetix sets that have been recalled lately. Most sets are designed for children 6 and up but a mature 4 year old would have fun building as well!

Just because it's not made in China does not mean it's safe. This toy, just like Magnetix, has small magnets that can be swallowed, leading to perforations in the intestines.

Sandy-Thanks for your comments. This toy is safe for the age it is intended. Our point is not that toys are safe for any age, but that you are getting what you expect to get. This toy is intended for kids 6 and up. Most children by this point are not swallowing toys.

Actually, Magnetix have not been recalled, despite the injuries and deaths it has caused. Magnetix is also intended for older children, but many of those older children have younger siblings, which is where the danger comes in (and most of the injuries have happened).

My point was not whether the toy is safe for the intended age, but that its danger is NOT caused by where it is made. No matter *where* they are made, small ingestible magnets are dangerous. I don't think they should be promoted as "safe" just because they aren't made in China.

Magnetix had several recalls in July and August for magnets detaching. All toys have the potential to be dangerous when not used by the appropriate age. Parents need to use good judgment if they have younger siblings in the household and good storage procedures. Obviously, if a young child swallows magnets it is not safe.

We are more concerned with toys that are dangerous when used as intended. No one expected that just holding a Thomas the train or wearing jewelry would increase your risk of lead poisoning.

We stand by our recommendation of Geomag for the recommended age.

Geomag are not made the same way as Magnetix. Magnetix have 2 very small magnets affixed to each end, and geomag has one large magnet that is encased in the plastic piece. Completely different design, and a far better design also.
